Summer Fun!

I do apologize that my last blog was in early May! One month later, I find that I have lots to post! It's been a busy start to Summer. Let's start with the weather...it's been "almost" record highs this week - 84 degrees today! Hard to complain about that but we live in Alaska after all and we can complain, right? Anyway, it's darn hot and today there was a wildfire right by town! Very scary! A good reminder about how dry it gets here in the summer. But, the good news is that with this heat, we've been eating lots of ice cream....that's good news, right? :)

Okay, on with the events...So, it's been a busy start to summer. Landon finished 1st grade on May 19th! Everyone was happy to be done with school but the only bummer is that his best buddy (and our good friends) won't be here next year as they are moving this summer to Washington state. (Big crocodile tears here!) So, I took this photo of two best friends.

Best buddies ~ Landon and Kier

The day after school, we bolted for Homer during Memorial Day weekend with friends, Kahlil, Sheri, Ajax, and Tom. It was a very beautiful drive down the road...

Nice rest stop for kids and dogs!

Sheri and Kahlil's new rig...

Caribou out the window...

A nice view of Denali at our lunch spot!

In Homer, Kahlil, Sheri, and Tom went on a charter to catch some "Butt" - halibut that is! Very yummy. The kids had a GREAT time on the beach and playing around. We even attended a wooden boat show and the kids made their own boats! It was a bit chilly in Homer but a fun trip overall.

Jumping in mud is so much fun!

Ajax and Landon...This is just too cute!

Making boats!

Right after the trip to Homer, we came back to Fairbanks and Kalena had creative movement dance camp and boy was she excited! The parents got to see the Carnival of Animals dance on the last day. She was a kangaroo and quite a good hopper!

Kalena dancing her heart out!

This week has Landon busy with a martial arts camp. He's been building a derby car as part of the camp and I'll share the derby race photos after this week!

All in all - not a bad start to summer :)
