Oh boy! We got to start our camping trips early this year with all the good weather. The first weekend in May was spent at Denali National Park. What a place to start! It was a beautiful weekend...sunny, blue skies, a fantastic view of Denali, wildlife, and kids...
Did I say kids? Yeah, we had an "extra" set with us this weekend. Why not take another 4 and 6 year old along for the adventure. Don't worry, we brought 'Mr. French' and friend, Tom, along for the fun!
The Crew - Delaney, Kier, Kalena, and Landon

On Saturday, we drove the 30 miles that you are allowed to drive into the Park this time of year. The drive is easy and we saw moose, caribou, lots of birds, and Brad and the boys saw a Lynx! Of course, Denali was out the entire time...it was a great drive and at the end of the road, we went for a walk and were HOT! It was 71 degrees in the Park.
Nice picnic spot...

Blue sky view...

After our drive, we decided to go visit the Sled Dog Kennel, near headquarters. The dogs were huge but very friendly and they loved getting their ears rubbed :)

Who needs a playground when you can have a dog house to play in?

Day two of our adventure was a hike to Horseshoe Lake. A nice way to get those legs moving. We prepared for quite the adventure but about 1/2 a mile into our adventure, the trail was flooded!
Heading to the trail head...Mr. French in the lead.

Oh no! A flooded route...

Time for another rest break with Mr. French (Tom)...

Boys testing out their shoes...or something...

After our short walk, we went to the Muir Learning Center to play with all the cool stuff. Kalena and Delaney got the Park Ranger to help them learn about the birds while Landon checked out the skulls.

Finally, we headed back to our vehicles and just as we got there, the train came by.
All tuckered out, Kalena and Delaney slept the entire drive back to Fairbanks. In Brad's vehicle, the boys read riddles all the way and I think Mr. French had a nice quite drive back to Anchorage :)
