Endless Summer...

If you ever hear me complain about this summer, it will be because that it seemed to go on forever. And, that really isn't anything to complain about! However, it makes one wonder just exactly is around the corner...an endless winter?

Much has happened since our return from the "lower 48" in August....including major events like KINDERGARTEN and NO MORE DIAPERS. Yes, it seems that we have reached some major milestones at the end of our summer. Landon started Kindergarten at Chinook Charter School on August 20th. (Where have the weeks gone?!) And, Kalena announced to us all on August 29th that she wasn't going to be needing any diapers at night and that underwear was "just fine". And, we made it so :)

I can't say that these milestones haven't come without some stress. Our mornings are more rushed since I really have a hard time getting up before 6:30AM and we have to be out the door by 7:45AM to get Landon to school on time. However we are rewarded later in the day and are home by 3:15 Monday - Thursdays and by 1PM on Fridays! I love Fridays :) And, then with Kalena - we have plans B-Z - just "in case" she has an accident. I think I've got most of the bed lined with some form of plastic or towels to trap any late night accidents...but she hasn't needed any of it so far! We keep our fingers crossed that we survive the next few months as we adjust to it all...

So, what have we been doing with our endless summer....well, enjoying it of course. Here are some photos of our latest escapades....

Berry picking w/ Jack, Jeff, Julie, and friends.
No berries but lots of yellow dogs!

A visit by toddler Ajax Wilson.
Check out that walking action!

A day at the local beach (aka Olnes Pond) w/ Molly and Garrett.
The kids version of three-men in a tub.

A beautiful Labor Day weekend in Valdez with Tom.
Not too many fish but lots of other wildlife.

Sea Otter

Bald Eagle

Lots of Pink Salmon!

Harbor Seal

And finally, just so that I can remember what a great summer we had in Alaska during the long days of winter... here is some greenery. Yes, we really CAN and DO grow vegetables in Alaska. Check out this garden! :)
