End of Summer, Beginning of School

Well it happened again. Another summer went zipping by and school started. I'm not sure how this happens and I'm certainly never prepared for school to start, especially this year. Kalena started kindergarten today. Yep. She will be turning 6 in September and has been pretty much waiting an entire year to start school at Chinook. I think she knows everyone already! Landon was pretty excited for school to start too. Both kids jumped out of bed at 6:30 this morning, were dressed in record time, and sitting at the breakfast table. Full cooperation today but I wonder how long it will hold out. Guess we'll see tomorrow.

Landon and Kalena in front of Chinook --- First day of school

Kalena meets the other kids and her teachers.

A kindergartner with a full pack!

The traditional poise by the pencil for the first day of school.

In the meantime, we have been very busy with our remaining "summer" from going to the Fair, checking out puppies, and picking blueberries.

We managed a few visits to the Fair and enjoyed Buddy day on the rides.

We even managed to hear some great bluegrass.

Kalena was very excited about being tall enough this year for the rides.

The kids found an exhibit done by their school! Very cute Button Quail.

Who can't love the petting zoo. The goats always love to see Landon.

Last weekend we visited some friends that have sled dog puppies. Oh my! You have never seen cuteness until you see 5 kids and 8 puppies all playing together! What a hoot! Of course, just like kids, puppies need to take naps too.

Kid and puppy napping pile.

Blueberry picking is our FAVORITE activity...well at least mine :)

Kalena enjoyed picking this year and got a bunch in this spot.

Landon also liked picking and ate most of his berries.

The jury is still out for Ajax and picking...he just wanted to nap or....

...wrestle! Ajax liked to tackle everyone and get them in a dog pile.

In a few weeks, I'll yank the kids out of school for one last summer event and head to Colorado to see Granny Bev and Grandpa Ed. The summer will culminate with a camping trip near Seattle with former Fairbanks friends Kier and Delaney. Just then, I might be ready for the fall and accept that summer has ended and school has officially begun :)
