Winter Daze

Winter was slow this year but when it came -- it came with vigor! Not only did we go from no snow to lots of snow but it also got really, really, cold. Just this past week it was -20 for most of the week and then went down to -30 over the weekend! We got a bit of a break today with the temperature rising to zero! This was cause for celebration! The kids and I went to Olnes Pond for a quick ski but it turned out that it was still -22 at the pond, so our ski was short lived :)

Landon practicing going up the hill.

Kalena with cold hands and deciding that beaver mitts are the way to go!

Not another fall? Help!

Other than our ski, most of the activities have been inside. Some things that happened this month include the end of Landon's first trimester in second grade (or Beta). This involved a student led portfolio presentation. It was Landon's best yet!

Big smiles from Landon! He shared his African map with all the major land features.

Also, we've begun the holiday celebrations. I was sorry to see Halloween come and go --- it's my favorite holiday. I know it's gone since a moose ate the rest of the pumpkins today. Sigh.

The moose that finished off Halloween.

So begins the seemingly none stop winter celebrations, starting with Kalena's preschool hosting a Thanksgiving party complete with snacks and holiday songs. It was great fun to hear all the kids sing but Kalena wasn't really in the mood. She hated wearing the "chicken" crown on her head. It was really a turkey crown but she kept calling it a chicken. I'm pretty sure this will be the last time we see a chicken or turkey on her head! :)

One unhappy turkey performer.

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday!
