The festivities and feasting for Thanksgiving began at Kalena's preschool where we had a nice potluck and ate cookies and cute little pumpkin pies that the kids made [see Julie's post about the party and check out Kalena and Jack on their fieldtrip to Safeway as well!]. After her party, we left town and headed for Anchorage to have Thanksgiving with Tom (aka Tom Turkey) and my brother Doug and his girls.
Heading to Anchorage ~ scenes from the road.

After arriving, we spent the next 24 hours cooking gobs of food. It turned out to be a good thing since another family also joined the event and they have 6 in their family! It was a semi-planned arrangement for the Wright's to join us on Thanksgiving Day as they were returning from Hawaii and had a lay-over in Anchorage. The only part that wasn't planned was that Cindy (the mom) fell off a horse in Hawaii a few days before and had to return to Alaska to have surgery on her broken wrist. So, Cindy was recuperating at Tom's house when we got to Anchorage.

(Got to love that pain medication!)

It was good to have her there as she's a good cook and despite her injuries, was able to give orders about cooking and such from the comforts of her bed while we prepared for Thanksgiving and waited for her family to arrive from Hawaii. In the end, we had 14 people for dinner - mostly kids...unlike the old days when we used to have more dogs than people! The only two dogs, Terra and Willow, hid in the bedroom with the cats...afraid of all the kids!
Nothing like a room with dazed and full kids!

Anchorage was quite a bit warmer than Fairbanks and we spent many hours at the park and playing in the snow. A bit of rain and a good snowstorm, made it quite nice for building snowman (and snowdogs) as well as for a great snowball fight!
Yeah wet snow! Perfect for snow families...

After gaining 4 pounds and consuming most of the food, we loaded up the mini-van and headed back to Fairbanks. I'm really looking forward to Christmas...it's a two week event...
...14 pounds?!!
