Escapes

January in Alaska means that half the population leaves the state for warmer climates. Well, we couldn't do that this year and so to avoid the cold, we drove south - south to Anchorage. Turns out that the weekend that we decided to drive south was also the warmest days we've had for a few months in Fairbanks! It was actually above freezing for about 4 days! Ah well - it was fun to see the cousins, eat Thai food, and play.

We spent one morning at the Imaginarium. Everyone had fun making bubbles, flying airplanes, sliding, and playing with the various toys.

Hey Mom - I'm a fly!

I'm in a bubble! (Victoria)

Hey, I can climb up this! (Ajax)

Then we spent lunch and the afternoon at Chucky Cheese! I had never been there (and thought I'd never set foot in that place) but it was totally fun! The kids had a great lunch and we played arcade games for several hours! We even got to see the giant mouse! Who knew a mouse could be so cool!

Who are those old guys?! (Tom and Brad)

Just one more bite before I hit the games...

Not so sure about this "mouse"....

The next day we spent most of the morning and early afternoon at the water park, H2 Oasis. And, what an oasis it was. This was by far my favorite escape activity. We did have one incident that wasn't so good for my niece, Victoria. She bumped her head in a slide and got a huge welt. That ended the water park activities but she recovered enough by the evening for some Mexican food :)

Finally, our last day was spent at the zoo. After all, it wouldn't be a trip to Anchorage without a trip - winter or summer - to the zoo.

Our drive home was interesting. We had slick roads, snow storms, blizzards, and finally dry roads all the way home.

Doesn't this look fun?!!

The kids did great and are still talking about Anchorage and asking when we'll be going again!!
