Portfolio Day!

Granny Bev and Landon in front of Chinook.

Carvings of a bear and fish adorn the entrance to Chinook.

Today was a special day for Landon as it was Portfolio Presentation Day at Chinook. This is similar to parent-teacher conferences except that at Chinook (a public Montessori school), the students don't have traditional grades and instead get to share their work for the first trimester with the parents. They still have a report card that gets reported as "official" grades with the school district but it's based on their individual progress in three categories. Anyway, the whole Montessori thing has been interesting and today was no exception!

Since today was a special day and the kids got out early for their afternoon presentations, I took Landon to lunch and then we went over to the school to check out his portfolio. He was very serious and spent about an hour explaining his portfolio and then showed me a math activity that he likes to do.

Landon sharing his portfolio with me.

It was fun to see him and the other kids with their parents in the classroom - huddled over notebook binders and checking out all the activities in the classroom. He was very proud of his work and so was I. He's looking forward to sharing with "dad" when he comes back from his trip!

Way to go Pooh!
