Fun in the Sun: Colorado

Summer is just whizzing by as most summers do in Alaska. This summer seems to be even faster than normal, in particular because we spent the 2.5 weeks visiting family in the "lower 48" in late July and early August. It was a great trip and we got to see both sets of grandparents and play with cousins. The time went by quickly and was lots of fun - even if it was HOT!

Colorado

The first part of our trip was spent visiting Granny and Grandpa Ed in southwestern Colorado.

We had to drive to Colorado from New Mexico. It was hot but a very nice drive through the desert. The heat wasn't so bad at the grandparents house since they live at 7000 feet. We had hot days but the mornings and evenings were wonderful.

The drive to Colorado....

The big hit around at the grandparents house was feeding Princess, the horse, her daily carrots and apples. Kalena was even brave enough to go riding with Granny. Landon didn't ride Princess but he found a good substitute in the house.

We had fun visits with Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Bill as well as my childhood friend, Amy and her family. We managed to take a few hikes and picnics in and enjoy the mountains.

The kids also got a special treat, and enjoyed a "Music in the Mountains" concert and play for the kids. The kids got to join about 100 other kids and watch Peter and the Wolf and the Little Train that Could in the park! They served lunch and had games and face painting after the event. It was a great day!

Our last day was spent at the local county fair and the kids checked out all the farm animals and had fun in a barrel train.

After our visit with Granny and Grandpa, we caught a plane and headed to Texas. We were sad to go and look forward to seeing Granny this fall (hint, hint) and hopefully, this winter in Hawaii :)
