On our way to Circle, we stopped at Eagle Summit for great views, lunch, and wildflowers.
View from Eagle Summit
After lunch, we headed to the Yukon River. The Steese Highway ends right in Circle and dead end's right on the Yukon.
The mighty Yukon River in the background.
After a night near the Yukon, we headed back home. The route along the Steese Hwy was torched two years ago in a fire called the "Taylor Complex" fire. This was the same fire that was heading towards our house and that we had to a pack all our stuff and be on edge for over two weeks. I was 7 months pregnant with Kalena at the time! It's amazing to see this burn and how extensive it was!
We stopped in Central (near Circle Hot Springs) for some gas. Here is a great sign on the door - "No guns or large hunting knives." Right under that sign is another one advertising ice for $3/bag. :-) Central is also one of the main check points for the Yukon Quest - a 1000 mile dog sled race between Fairbanks and Whitehorse...hence the cut out of the dog on the building.
A quick romp at the local school playground - they have a mere 10 students that attend school here!
Finally, heading home and stopping at Davidson Ditch for a rest. This set of pipes carried water all the way down the valley and into Fox where it was used for gold dredging. This pipe is the very reason why our house in Fox sits on all the gravel tailing's....
