It's an Emergency!

Okay, so I forgot one major event of the weekend...and I'm not sure how it really slipped my mind but it did! We had our first "emergency" this weekend!

Late Saturday afternoon - while Brad slept snoozing on the couch - Kalena calmly came to the bedroom and told me she had a "poopkorn kernel" in her nose. Totally bewildered, I climbed off the step stool that I was on, found a flashlight, and peered into her nostril. Sure enough - she DID have a "poopkorn kernel" up her left nostril! I couldn't believe it and woke Brad up for verification. Sure enough, he confirmed that there was indeed a "foreign object" (the term we later learn they use at the clinic for such things) up her nose.

We decided that we might actually be able to get this kernel out ourselves and after several attempts with a "bugger sucker" (you parents know what gadget I mean) and poking around it wouldn't come out. Through this whole event - Kalena was very still and followed instructions like a pro! We finally decided to proceed to the clinic, in hopes we weren't going to the ER. So, I have a question for you all here....is it only my kids that seem to linger, dawdle, and be very uncooperative during an emergency situation or do they all do this?! My gads....it took FOREVER to get them out the door.....but finally we were on our way.

Finally at the clinic, after explaining to the person checking us in that my daughter has a "poopcorn kernel" in her nose and after hearing several stories of how other kids (including the woman checking us in) have put things up their noses and after waiting for what seemed like over an hour, we finally saw the nurse and doctor. This also seemed to take eternity since Kalena screamed the whole time from being weighed to having her vitals taken and then all way through the removal of the "poopcorn kernel" from her nose.

A few minutes after the scolding from the doctor telling her not to put “foreign objects” up the nose and some cuddles from mom, the kid was good as new! The whole thing took less than 2 hours and we headed to our friends for a fine dinner. After a few glasses of wine for me, I too soon forgot about the event and our 1st emergency.

Needless to say that I didn't even take time to take a picture of the "poopcorn kernel" up the nose, but I do have one from today of the kids and their gingerbread houses....just because...well, they are so cute :)
